Home Assistant Smart Home System
1. Project Introduction
A Home Assistant smart home hub system deployed on a private fnOS host, with HA as the core integrating Xiaomi, Tuya and Midea ecosystems to unify lights, curtains, window openers, air conditioners, smart locks and sensors under one management and automation layer. The system has been running since December 2025, with over 8 months of continuous backup records.
Design Philosophy
- Private deployment: all data stored on the local home host, no reliance on external cloud services
- Multi-ecosystem unification: cross-brand devices unified in access, control and automation
- Continuously online: containerized hosting + daily automatic backups for long-term stability
2. System Scale
| Metric | Count |
|---|---|
| Total entities | 412 |
| Registered devices | 68 |
| Integration entries | 39 |
| Custom components | 13 |
| Enabled automations | 12 |
| Scripts | 5 |
| Daily automatic backups | 243 (8+ consecutive months) |
3. Core Capabilities
- Multi-ecosystem device access: Xiaomi (local-first), Tuya (cloud + local dual channel) and Midea (cloud) unified management covering lights, curtains, window openers, ACs, smart locks and sensors
- Self-developed infrared AC control: for infrared ACs without official integration support, a self-developed component implements the full control chain of power, temperature, mode and fan speed
- NFC one-tap scenes: tap a phone to trigger scene-based automation such as "one-tap AC on"
- Weather-linked automation: light strips auto-on at sunset with weather-based colors (sunny/cloudy different tones) and timed auto-off at night
- Floor-plan dashboard: visualized control panel based on the floor plan with positioned controls for lights, window openers and curtains
- Daily automatic backups: full backups (including history database) every day, 243 consecutive zero-failure
4. Uptime and Stability
The system runs stably: the host has been running 30 days, the HA container 21 days with zero crash-restarts, all 12 automations normal, overall stability rating ★★★★☆.
4.1 Key Stability Metrics
| Metric | Value | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Host continuous run | 30 days | ✅ Normal |
| HA container continuous run | 21 days (0 crash-restarts) | ✅ Normal |
| Container resource usage | CPU ~2%, memory ~0.7 GB | ✅ Very low |
| Automatic backups | 243, 100% success | ✅ Uninterrupted |
| Automations | 12/12 enabled, no load failures | ✅ Normal |
4.2 Milestones
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 2025-12-26 | Daily automatic backup mechanism launched |
| 2026-04 | System deployed with base configuration |
| 2026-07 | Theme polish and dashboard optimization |
| 2026-08-08 | Light-strip sunset weather-linked automation |
| 2026-08-09 | Self-developed AC control dashboard, smart lock integration |
| 2026-08-17 | NFC one-tap scene launched |
| 2026-08-31 | Full system health check |
4.3 Current Risks
- Host disk usage is high (mainly long-term backups and history database); setting a backup retention count is recommended
- Some devices show offline alerts (device-side network issues, not affecting the system overall)
- A few third-party components have deprecated interfaces requiring adaptation before future upgrades
5. Security & Compliance
- Private deployment: home data stays local, never leaves the intranet
- Encrypted backups: daily automatic backups are encrypted
- Credential management: access tokens rotated regularly; sensitive files never shared externally
- Recoverability: complete backup and restore procedures with fast rollback
